Javad Koohsari
The University of Melbourne, VIC, Australia
- This delegate is presenting an abstract at this event.
Dr Koohsari is an urban designer with a focus on the influence of the built environment on health and well-being. He initiated collaborations with three groups of internationally-leading ‘built environment and health' researchers (Professor Owen, Dr Sugiyama, Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute; Dr Kaczynski, University of South Carolina; Professor Giles-Corti, Dr Badland, University of Melbourne). Together, these partnerships enabled him to work on several research projects in order to investigate the role of the built environment on health outcomes in Australia and USA. In his research appointments at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and at the Place, Health, and Liveability Program, University of Melbourne, he works with unique Australian health and place datasets, including the AusDiab (Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle), RESIDE (the RESIDential Environments) and PLACE (Physical Activity in Localities and Community) studies. A specific focus in these appointments is to understand the built environment determinants of physical activity and sedentary behaviour. As an urban design researcher, Dr Koohsari developed interdisciplinary research network with public health researchers, and help contribute to advance the knowledge in the emerging ‘built environment and health' research field.
